Hello Lone Pipers!
After weeks of impatiently waiting, we finally have good news: We are in! 🍾🥂
The Lone Pipers Band will be joining the United Pipers for Peace 2025 in Apeldoorn in the Netherlands! As we already mentioned, this will take place from the 2nd until the 5th of May 2025.
United Pipers for Peace Apeldoorn 2025 is an essential event of our time, with up to 20 pipe bands assembling to remember all the victims of all conflicts, past and present, and adding the sound of the pipes to the growing call for lasting peace.
Apeldoorn was part of the market Garden operation. The Apeldoorn 25 event is an 80th celebration of the liberation of the Netherlands. The UPFP are hoping to form a massed pipe band of 400 men and women.
And now we know we are in, we need you!
We are thinking about gathering on the 1st of May and departure on the 6th of May.
Please let us know before the 1st of September if you have the intention to join the Apeldoorn 2025 event.
Let us know by mailing to thelonepipersband@outlook.com as soon as possible!
Give us your name, country and instrument, so we can tell the organizers of UPFP how big our band will be.
Share the information with our fellow Lone Pipers who might have missed this information.
As soon as we can, the committee will start looking for lodging so we know what to do in the next few weeks.
If you know of a campsite or other good place to stay near Apeldoorn, please let us know by mail.
Thank you!
Musically yours,

The committee
Astrid, Tasha and Matthy

Dear friends of the lone pipers,

This is our November newsflash, and it’s all about our Normandy 24 tour. This news flash will be posted on our website (https://lonepipersband.jouwweb.nl/) and will be mailed to all band members. Please contact us when you did not receive an email! The mail address is: <thelonepipersband@outlook.com>

In this newsflash, we will give you information about:

Our team for the Normandy 24 tour

The camping site

The fundraising event on the 4th of June

Our tour manager

Our search for a logistic manager

Our Normandy 24 team

For now, we received emails for their participation on our Normandy 24 event form the following members:

Astrid van den Brink

Iain Fraiser

Hans Wijts

Rineke van Heel

Martin Nieuwenhuizen

Eugene Nieuwenhuizen

Marleen Nieuwenhuizen

Ronald Pieren

Matthy van Klaveren

Sandra Hummel

Berry Hummel

Richard Torsy

Quentin Torsy

Diederick van Steenis

Kevin York

Adam Makepeace

Steve Makepeace

Judith Beijers

Paul Stevens

Sarah Stevens

Robin Norman-Schmidt

John Brennan

Jack Hutcheon

Tim Martin

Mariette Tromp

Olivier Evrard

Not sure they will be able to attend:

Tasha Fehrire

Frederique Vansevant

Roland McKinnon

If you want to join the band on our tour June 24 or you can’t find your name on the list, please send us an email!

The camping site

As a band, we want to be on the same camping site. In the past, it proved to be the easiest and the most fun way. We can spend time together, for lunches and dinners. Maybe even get out the pipes to have some fun... But breakfasts can be taken separately (for those who can't have too many people around in the morning……)

So, we opt for a site where we can rent some houses/mobile homes and where campervans are allowed. It looks like camping Riva Bella in Ouistreham is our best shot. The camping site was not yet open for reservations.

Tasha will contact the camping on short notice. We will get back to you when we have news about it.

The fundraising event on the 4th of June

Steven Oldrid helps us out with finding the right events, ceremonies and parties which we can attend. The first option is a fundraising event on the 4th of June.

If you want to join you can contact the band committee for all information and subscription. Although right now the fundraiser is fully booked, we can always use a spare just in case.

Our Normandy 24 tour manager

Tasha, the Godmother of the band, will be our Normandy 24 tour manager. She will keep in contact with our friends in Normandy and will be responsible for finding some great events to play on.

She is able to communicate in Dutch, French and English.

Our search for a Normandy 24 logistic manager

For our Normandy tour, we are looking for a logistic manager. He or she will coordinate all logistics.

So, it's about transportation of the band from and to the events, but also about the (buying and preparation of the) meals we want to share together.

You are allowed to make your decisions, it is your job to have fun, to coordinate, to ask help from band members and not to do everything yourself!

You are always in close contact with the tour manager and the band committee.

If you are interested in helping the band out, please contact us by email!

Looking forward to meeting you all in June!

Those with a preference of a campervan, we will try to arrange a campsite where we’ll all be together.

If you subscribe it’s expected of you to participate at the different events over the period you’re there, but you can also ask to get a half day off to do something private. We need to know this in advance!

Normandy 2024

2023-08-30

Hello pipers, drummers, flag bearers, singers and volunteers! (This message is rather long so please bear with me )

I’ve been listening to you and talking to our committee concerning the organisation for next year’s commemorative event in Normandy. It will be the 80th anniversary so we all want to be there! For starters, subscription BEFORE NOVEMBER 1st send by email to the commitee.

Please do not use the Facebook page to subscribe, information gets lost here all to easily. The committee members and the other people in charge will share all updates on here, but everything will be sent via email. This way you will have all the information needed. In your mail to Astrid, you’ll give your name, instrument you play or if you’re a volunteer. You’ll tell exactly how many days you’re there and how you want to be lodged. Those with a preference of a campervan, we will try to arrange a campsite where we’ll all be together. I know the deadline is soon, but we have no choice.

If you subscribe it’s expected of you to participate at the different events over the period you’re there, but you can also ask to get a half day off to do something private. We need to know this in advance.

Astrid and Matty are on vacation until around the start of September, but in the meantime, we won’t sit around waiting. Send your email, Astrid will register everyone as soon as she’s back.

I will try to invest myself more in the organization of this event, but I’ll be more active once my job contract is finished, which is at the beginning of November.

I will contact some of our more experienced members to ask if they’re interested in a “job assignment”, if you like, you can always propose yourself. If all goes well, we already have a Pipe Major and a Drum Major, but it won’t hurt to have a spare, just in case.

If you know someone who’s a member of the Lone Pipers but isn’t on Facebook, please pass on the message ASAP. Everything concerning the organization will go through Astrid.

Updates will be mailed and posted here, but no important information will be passed on solely on this page, we’ve all noticed it’s a pain to find a post written a few months back.

My dear members, if we want the Lone Pipers to continue, we need all hands on deck and communicate.

See you all hopefully in Normandy in 2024!!

The website will be updated in the meanwhile.

Our next update will be the end of september.

Normandy and Ypres 2023

Dear friends of the Lone Pipers,

After 3 years of COVID and silence we are happy to confirm that there will be 2 gatherings for the Lone Pipers band in 2023: Ypres and Normandy!

Facebook users could have read about it in the post Kevin shared!

Ypres

First, we will gather in Belgium at Ypres, the famous battle ground of World War I.

We will be there from April 14th until April 17th.

Plans are to meet, eat and play at some famous cemeteries and visit some museums.

You have to book your own accommodation.

A few of us already booked the hotel: kasteelhof ’t Hooghe: http://www.hotelkasteelhofthooghe.be/

For Ypres we ‘ve got a great team already:

Kevin, Steven, Adam, Fred, Matt, Astrid, Bert & Ellen, Eugene & Marleen, Martin, Sandra & Berry will join for 1 day.

Normandy

We also will attend the Normandy this year to participate in the D-Day commemorations!

We plan to be there from June 3th until June 8th.

Kevin York is in contact with the local organisations to get us in to some nice ceremonies and parades. He will be our tour manager.

Tim will be our Pipe major.

We will try to visit both the British and the US beaches.

As far as we know, a few already booked an accommodation on a camping site:

https://www.domaine-prairiesdelamer.com/en/

If you are planning to join us In Ypres or Normandy, please let us know by email!

Normandy tour 2022

Kevin made an inventarisation some weeks ago on Facebook about who wanted to go to Normandy D-Day this year. We saw some Dutch members responding.

We understood Kevin, Steve and Adam, and Caroline and Ronnie are planning to go to Normandy this summer.

Kevin says there are some options to play in Normandy. We as committee are not aware of the status of this options.

So unfortunately, there are a lot of uncertainties.

We are sorry to say that for now we as committee made the decision not to take action in organising a Lone Pipers Normandy 2022 event.

We will inform the band by Facebook post and by our website.

Band members who want to go to Normandy please contact Caroline or Kevin. There might be nice options to meet them or to join them at some great events.

Camping site vouchers 2020

Astrid has contacted the camping site about the vouchers. They promised a full refund.

Band member who paid for the cancelled Normandy 2020 tour can contact Astrid for their refund!

Options 2022

The committee is in contact with the organisation of the Market Garden Commemoration in September 2022 in Arnhem (Netherlands). There might be a possibility we as Lone Pipers Band can join the Pipeband there.

We hope Dutch COVID rules might be easier by then for non-vaccinated members of the band. If you are willing to join the band in September 2022 Arnhem please sent a PM to me or sent an email to Matt.

As soon as we have more information we will get in touch with you.

Kind regards,

Tasha, Astrid and Matt

Important news about our Lone Pipers Normandy tour 2020!!!

Hello friends,

From our Local Normandy contact Steven we learned that the commemorations itself aren’t cancelled in june. There will be some sort of remembrances but they cannot have to many folks gathering . So, there will be a small service in each town or village, with a maximum of 20 people, including organization, musicians and visitors.

It looks like all veterans and their associations, police band, band of liberation, army cadets, paratroupers etc. have all cancelled. Bayeux cancelled all ceremonies as well.

Now, the LP is welcome in Normandy, but Steven is convinced that we will go through a lot of trouble for a cat and a stray dog (French expression to say no-one is coming, or maybe one or two people). The villages that are doing their ceremony have enough folks to do it, otherwise they will cancel as well.

Most of our older band members are locked up in quarantine. The French aren’t allowed to travel. The borders are still closed, so coming from the Netherlands or Belgium is not possible for now either.

We have to accept the reality of things here. Also protecting us against the COVID19, our health has the highest priority. As much as we wanted to go, we decided to cancel our Lone Pipers Normandy 2020 tour.

The camping reservation will be transferred to next year. Unfortunately they don’t give our money back.

Money paid for the food and drinks can be refunded. Please sent an email to Astrid!

Thank you all! Stay safe!

Astrid, Tasha and Matt

In memoriam

Dear friends, unfortunately bad news.....

We have just heard we have lost our band member Sylvie Tanneau. It is too sad. So many memories and moments.... Thank you for joining us in Amiens Sylvie.

Our condolances to Roland, family and friends.

March 2020

Dear Lone Pipers and drummers, here’s the march 2020 newsflash!

Other members can still join us at the Normandy 2020 tour. If you want to join, please sent an email to Matt.

Keep in mind: When registering after January 20 we can’t guarantee you any band accommodations to sleep will be available!

Most band members opted to use the meals together. Good choice!!

Jeanette had volunteered to take care of our breakfast. Now Astrid will help us out. Sandra and Berry  will take care of our lunches and dinners. We learned from last year they will do a fantastic job!

Thank you so much for volunteering Astrid, Sandra and Berry!!

Unfortunately we are still in desperate need of a tour manager. The job of the tour manager is to contact local organizations in Normandy and find us places and events to play.

For now Matt is in contact with Steven Oldrid and tries to find some options to play. But due to Matt’s own busy schedule at work and the forthcoming elections in France nothing is sure yet.

The Lone Pipers is an international band of individual players. As before in Amiens 2016, Amiens 2018  and Normandy 2019 we would like to emphasize this unique background by asking you to wear any Scottish outfit you want, so we will look as different as possible and to add the flag of you country to your pipes or drums.

We want to look good, but we want to sound even better! So take care of your pipes and please practice the tunes of our setlist.

Scores are available at this website

(lsheet music/partitions in the menu above)

Any questions about the tunes or the scores? Contact PM Tim and LD Daniel!

That’s all for now!

Tasha, Astrid and Matt

Dear Lone Pipers members,

With a sad heart I have to inform you that Jeannette died at the hospital on Friday January 31th.

We will remember her as a friend and as a proud member of our band.

Her funeral has been at Saturday February 8th.

December 2019

Friends of the Lone Pipers Band,

Here is the December 2019 News Flash! In this News Flash we have news about the website, about the Homburg event and about Normandy 2020.

lonepipersband.jouwweb.nl

Our own website is officially open on the internet. A big thank you to Martin Nieuwenhuizen!!  You can find our website here:

www.lonepipersband.jouwweb.nl

On our website you will find the latest news, our former events, pictures and the tunes.

The Homburg event

The Glasgow Piping School will have a week full of workshops on February 2nd-9th 2020 in Homburg Germany. We did not get much response from our band members to participate.  The Lone Pipers might be represented in Homburg by just 1 or 2 members.  If you are interested to join, please let Matt know!

Normandy 2020

We are working on the Normandy D-Day 2020 remembrance June 3rd until June 7th.

We are happy to let you know that Sandra, Berry and Jeanette will take the role as our Normandy 2020 logistic managers! They will take care of the food and a place to sleep! And we learned from last year that they are really,  really good at it!!

We are still in need for a Normandy 2020 tour manager!!!  The tour manager will have the important job to contact the local organizations of the D-Day remembrances in France and to find places to play.  The tour manager is in charge of our program during our stay in Normandy. If you are interested in this job, or if you know someone, please contact us!

In order to make the first reservations on the camping site we would like to gather information about the number of members who want to join the Normandy 2020 event. Please let us know if you want to join us in June. Tell us with how many persons you want to join us, please give us their names and let us know if you want to use the band accommodations or want to look for your own camping or hotel.  Last year we learned it is highly recommended to join the bands accommodations! And also, let us also know if you don’t want to join us in June!

Please, sent your reaction(s) to Matt before December 31th 2019!

This is all for now.

Merry X-mas to all our friends!
